Barbara Poczyniak, R.Ac, Registered Acupuncturist & Arvigo®Therapy Practitioner
More women are using acupuncture as a supportive therapy to optimize fertility as they prepare to get pregnant - either naturally or with IUI or IVF. Some of my clients are even being referred to acupuncture by their doctors as a part of their fertility program. Acupuncture is a gentle therapy with virtually no side effects. So how exactly can acupuncture help fertility and what do you need to know.
Research about Acupuncture for Fertility
A recent study from Tel Aviv University reports that when acupuncture was used in conjunction with Western fertility treatments, the conception rates increased by 26%. Both conception rates and “take home baby” rates were significantly higher for the test group of women who used acupuncture alongside conventional IUI treatments.

Where to find Acupuncture for Fertility in Toronto
While acupuncture is now a regulated act available from a variety of professionals in Ontario – not all acupuncture is necessarily the same. Apart from Registered Acupuncturists, TCM Practitioners and Naturopaths, other acupuncture providers may include medical doctors, chiropractors, physiotherapists and massage therapists. Many of these practitioners focus on acupuncture for pain relief only.
While each practitioner has their own strengths and scope of training, it is important to know that fertility-focused acupuncture is a wholistic approach based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine. When choosing your provider, it is important to ask about their scope of practice and level of training in Acupuncture for Fertility.
Are you or someone you know trying to optimize their fertility? Acupuncture for Fertility is one of the main focuses in my practice, and I would be happy to answer your questions. Contact me here for your complimentary 20 minute consultation.
